As you may know, DKOR designs commercial as well as residential interiors. That’s why our expert design team visited NeoCon 2023 in Chicago to see what’s new in the commercial design world.

Held in Chicago’s iconic Merchandise Mart with over 2 million square feet of showrooms and offices, NeoCon is the world’s leading platform and most important event of the year for the commercial design industry.

Every year since 1969, new products such as furniture, fabrics, flooring, interior building products, interior finishes, and technology have been displayed, unveiling the latest trends.

OUR FAVORITE BOOTHS FROM THE NEOCON SHOW

Our commercial designers were super excited to attend NeoCon 2023 this year. They enjoyed the opportunity to familiarize themselves with new vendors whose products they can use in their commercial projects.

There were booths that captivated their attention and became their favorites. In this article, we share all that they discovered about the latest in commercial interior design trends.

STEELCASE

Steelcase is one of the old brands that produce commercial furniture. Their booth at NeoCon 2023 was truly amazing and highly inspiring. What stood out most was how the company categorized its products by specialty, such as healthcare, education, retail, and workspaces.

When it comes to workspaces, what impressed us the most was the shift from traditional desks to ones that felt more like they belong in your home. The individual desks were designed with elements that created a sense of coziness, incorporating various textures used in residential design.

We were particularly intrigued by the emphasis on acoustics and the important role it plays in the workplace, as well as the versatile use of dividers. Steelcase’s designs have seamlessly integrated lounge areas alongside workstations, allowing for visual connections with colleagues and providing multiple options for flexible layouts. Our design team was truly inspired by the genuinely hybrid workplace Steelcase displayed at NeoCon 2023.

We look forward to including SteelCase innovative products into our future commercial projects. Here are some of the configurations that appealed to us the most:

Acoustics

This vignette demonstrates how privacy and acoustics can be delivered to an individual desk area. When a break from work is necessary, the acoustic panel works as a divider for a lounge area as well.

Lounge Areas

We also loved how the workplace ingeniously incorporated lounge areas. Who wouldn’t enjoy having a designated lounge area to relax in between meetings or to have a casual meeting? This feature was also one of our favorites, seen at the Steelcase booth at NeoCOn 20023.

You can see that the back of the sofa was used as a shelf-and-desk combo, and poufs were added to create flexible seating. This clever design really encourages workers to maximize the office space while creating a dynamic and lively space.

KETTAL

Another booth that our commercial design team loved at NeoCon 2023 was Kettal. We are already familiar with this brand because we’ve used them in our interior residential projects, but it surprised us to discover that they also carry a commercial furniture line. Did you know that?

This came as no surprise since we already love this company! At NeoCon 2023, we were introduced to their commercial products, from phone booths to the office structures. We witnessed how versatile an office can be by incorporating their products. They also offered unique textures and colors, along with systems of very good quality.

DARRAN

From the color palette to the versatile layouts, Darran’s booth caught our attention right away.

Right at the entrance we found the Dove, a comfortable rocking chair made with PET (polyethylene terephthalate), a type of clear, strong, lightweight and 100% recyclable plastic. While exploring the booth, we were inspired by the central modular seating they were showcasing.

This configuration is a good example of how their Honez Buzz sofa presents an opportunity to create different spaces and functional areas, depending on the needs of the clients. Check the photos and let us know what you think.
