DKOR’s Five Favorite New Modern Lighting Designs

Decorative lighting is often called the jewelry of interior design—it’s the cherry on top of the design that really makes it shine. Take a peek at your favorite room designs (you know the ones you always look to as your inspiration) and there’s no doubt that you’ll find awesome decorative lighting. We’re not talking about can or track lighting; we’re talking about a stunning chandelier, an eye-catching sconce, or a creative floor lamp.

Even though all types of lighting are essential in good design, decorative lighting has a special charm because it meets two design needs: brings extra light into a space and adds a bold decorative element.

With so many lighting options out there, you can always find something to suit your style, taste, and budget. But which ones are our designers at DKOR Interiors loving right now?

You know we’re always up on the latest lighting trends and are constantly searching for beautiful and innovative designs. So in April, we traveled to the Salone Del Mobile Milan 2017, an international design show, in the hopes of discovering new brands and getting inspired by some of our favorite lighting brands.

Euroluce, the mega lighting fair, was undoubtedly one of our favorite exhibitions. It was so inspiring to see the unique lighting materials, new systems, original lighting installations, and brand-new lighting brands that we decided to curate our five favorite new modern lighting designs from the show for you! Take a look below.

Manta by Terzani

Terzani is always present on our list of top Italian lighting designers! We loved their new collection, especially the Manta crystal light and its shimmering waves. Nicolas Terzani partnered with artist Dodo Arslan to create this work of art that can also be used as lighting. The results are soft waves of crystal light reminiscent of being underwater.

Tempo Vivace Pendant by Arturo Alvarez

Finding Arturo Alvarez and these magical lamps was definitely a highlight of our Euroluce trip! Their tempo vivace pendant is made from two layers of painted stainless steel mesh folded into fine pleats. When the two layers overlap, they create a dynamic lamp that looks like twirling skirts. It’s not just stunning, but so unique!

KNOT Cilindro Pendant by Brokis

Glass + natural rope = on-trend lighting. While we saw a lot of fixtures blending those two materials, our favorite version of this trend was the Knot collection by Brokis, a Czech Republic-based company. Featuring polished glass in a variety of colors, a metal hood, and a knotted rope running through the lamp, lamps from the Knot collection are available in four organic shapes: cilindro, sfera, disco, and uovo.

Doodle Wall Sconce by Terzani

We can’t help but add a second Terzani light to our top five modern lighting designs — their collections are so amazing! The Terzani doodle wall sconce is contained chaos, featuring a tangled cage of metal wire with a movable light source. Perfect to create an interesting lighting cluster! We love that they come in copper, gold, nickel, and black nickel to fit any design.

Wonder Suspension Lamp by Penta

The wonder pendant light, by Bartoli Design, really is wonderful! It has an elegant yet striking contemporary shape, and mixes two tones in one fixture—a big lighting trend right now. The metal lighting structure is available in matte gold, matte graphite, and matte copper, while the diffuser comes in tinted or transparent glass. It’s also available in three sizes, perfect for creating an eye-catching light cluster in a foyer or over a dining room table.
