Sophisticated Look
For a formal and elegant dinner, we immediately think of classic color combinations like black, gold, and white. Just because it’s a classic doesn’t mean it’s not of-the-moment, too.
Gold flatware is very trendy right now, so pick up a set for a curated look. Pair the gold flatware with gold-rimmed chargers or dinner plates and a gold runner for even more sparkle. Then, ground the look with black placemats and dinner plates.
If you prefer white or neutral plates, that’s a perfectly fine substitution. (We get it, they make food look oh-so-good.) Look for plates with a slight pattern or texture to provide additional interest.
Timeless white cloth napkins up the style ante—they’re so chic.
Our favorite interior designer-approved trick: Have fun selecting glassware! Play with textures and shapes for an eclectic look. Fun glassware will keep this elegant table setting from appearing too stuffy.
The final touch is the centerpiece. We’re loving an earthy-hued dry flower arrangement that can be used year after year, or transported to a coffee or console table after the big dinner. If you prefer live flowers, support a small business by checking out a local florist.
If you prefer to arrange yourself, look for curvy and interestingly shaped vases. Bonus points if your vase is smokey or fall-inspired like our picks.
For those who aren’t wild about flowers (faux or not), try a set of tall, spindly candlesticks with simple white taper candles. They’ll take your decor to new heights!

Thanksgiving Table Setting Idea – Boho Chic Look
This Thanksgiving table setting idea is for those who want their home full of life, culture, and one-of-a-kind objects. It takes the traditional fall-hued palette and infuses it with interesting shapes and textures. This year is a bit untraditional, so this Thanksgiving table setting is a perfect match!
Start with textured and colored items: funky salad plates, ribbed glassware, and orange (or other autumnal color) fringed cloth napkins. Have fun with your stand-out elements; they should speak to your personality!
Pair your showstoppers with neutral but unique elements to enhance them, like gold dinner plates or chargers and textured cream placemats.
Then, add a contrasting element. We are loving black flatware lately. It’s unexpected, bold, and a refreshing design choice.
For the centerpiece, pick a more traditional fall arrangement to balance out the eclectic vibe of your table. To balance funky design with classic style, opt for gold or brass candlesticks in fresh designs, or gold hurricanes spaced out down the length of the table.
