Coastal Vacation Getaway: Living Room Reveal
As we head into spring and start looking forward to the warmer weather, vacation homes are on everyone’s minds. What wouldn’t you give to have a slice of sunshine right now? Our Miami-based designers love creating vacation homes. We love vacation homes because you can always find light and joy in them. These are homes, designed to escape the rest of the world and just relax. Today we have a living room reveal for you!
Every coastal vacation home is a little different, but what they all share is their ability to express our clients’ tastes in a serene, welcoming way. To give you a perfect example, we’ve revealing the photos of this amazing living room in a recent design project at the beach.
A mix of maritime chic and coastal comfort, this one-of-a-kind vacation home design was inspired by the interplay between light and shadow. With rich contrasts and an emphasis on verticality, we’ve designed a spectacular space for our clients. A space that they can enjoy as their home away from home.
DESIGN CONCEPT
The concept behind this living room is modern and fresh with gentle nuances that bring the outside in. We wanted to incorporate contrasting neutral hues while emphasizing the light and shadows that reflect on the walls. The design is not about a vibrant sunset, rather, it’s an appreciation of the gentle changes that occur throughout the day at the beach.
DESIGN INTENT
We divided the room in half, with one side devoted to the wall-mounted tv and low storage console. Keeping this area minimal allows our clients to focus on their favorite movies without lots of clutter around. The foundational colors for the room are light neutrals, with organic-inspired textures on the wallcoverings and wood finishes. Everything is designed to promote a sense of calm.
For the seating area, we chose a contemporary L-shaped sectional, a round coffee table and a large ottoman that can be pulled out as an additional seat. Of course, the focal point is the dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows that line the walls and allow light to flood in and fill the space during the day.
Now that you’ve seen our original intent, let’s take a look at the outcome!
LIVING ROOM REVEAL – FINAL PHOTOS
It’s easier to visualize our theme of light and shadow in the finished room, as it comes across clearly in many of the details. The sheer curtains are the most obvious example, as they let varying levels of light shine through depending on how far they are pulled back.

From the rounded lines on the vases to the upholstery chosen for the pillows, there are special accents everywhere that recall the ocean.[/vc_column_text]
We love incorporating luxe metallic elements to spice up designs with a lot of neutrals, especially in coastal homes. Not only do these vases add shine to the room, but they nod to the sea in all its reflective marine blue glory.
Is there anything more relaxing than sitting on your sofa and gazing out over a dreamy ocean view? This living room has the immense appeal of a balcony right on the beach and we had to take advantage of that by positioning the seating area towards it.
LIVING ROOM REVEAL – HOME DECOR
Along with echoing the linear theme throughout, these mirrored standing lamps add contemporary flair to the corner of the room. We layered lighting from floor to ceiling to create a tranquil glow within the room at any moment.
These funky, curved accent pieces are not only stylish, but they also have a coastal feel. It was important to us to integrate some rounded details for balance. Our finishing touch in this living room reveal was the freshness of dried rust-colored bunny tails, adding a pop of color and life.
