Unique Coffee Tables Setting Ideas for Your Living Room
Our residential interior design team loves designing living rooms because they are one of the centers of the home, where people gather with friends and family. Our designers particularly enjoy choosing coffee tables from the vast array of available options, and creatively deciding where to place them.
Coffee tables are such an important feature of the living room – have you ever seen a living room without one? This sometimes overlooked piece of furniture can serve as both an accent to complement the interior design scheme and even be the focal point of the room. Either way, it is an opportunity not only to be creative but also to design something unique for our clients.

Unique Coffee Tables Setting Ideas
Ottoman + Table Combinations
Our DKOristas love to combine coffee tables with ottomans, which lend themselves beautifully to acting as a table without actually being one, a visual riddle that adds interest to a living room.
In this taupe and gray living room designed for a New York City apartment, we chose a Britten round ottoman in distressed leather to complement a Gem cocktail table from Adrianna Hoyos featuring a cushion-shaped top and square base. You can tell how much fun our designers had playing with the shapes of unique coffee tables!
In this pairing of a coffee table with an ottoman, we also added a matching pouf for a little creative fun. This square room was softened with furniture and accessories featuring gentle curves and circular patterns. Notice how the solid oak coffee table with beveled edges acts as a companion piece to the ottoman with its contrasting color, smooth finish and geometric top.
This living room design in a Brickell Miami condo is as much about texture as it is about shape. The sleek metal and glass tripod coffee table contrasts with the heavy weave of the ottoman, elevating the objects from an odd couple to part of a design scheme that makes perfect sense!
You can find another unique coffee table setup idea in this final living room! It features a coffee table placed next to an ottoman, where our designers enjoyed juxtaposing an open, airy modern coffee table with a more traditional, solid rectangular ottoman.
The smoke gray glass table top picks up on the color scheme of the room, while its bright geometric base adds visual interest.
Coffee Table Clusters
When designing a living room, it’s pretty much a given that a coffee table is placed at the center of the setting. However, our design team has come up with a new way to showcase unique coffee tables, reimagining this concept by filling the space with two or more creative coffee tables instead of just one. Let’s take a look at some examples from our interior design portfolio. As you will see, there are infinite ways to pair two or more coffee tables.
In this living room, we put two unique coffee tables of different heights, shapes, colors and materials together. It creates visual interest without detracting from the elegant design and spectacular water views.
Here we added a third coffee table to the mix. To realize this coffee table idea, our team chose tables that have the same design and made from the same material, but opted for different heights and shapes. This eye-catching configuration really catches the eye!
Same Table, Two Times
Yes, you are seeing double! This is a great example of using the same coffee table twice, but with a slight variation in height and size. Notice how they are positioned so that they abut each other, but are not completely parallel. This is a great technique for creating both a unique and interesting look.
And last but not least, we love this playful design using the same coffee table but in a different direction. The round base echoes the curvilinear shape of the rounded sofa, while the waterfall table picks up on the straight lines of the other sofa. It’s a study in asymmetrical symmetry!
Which of these unique coffee table setups caught your eye the most? If you’re still craving more living room design inspiration, take a look through our extensive portfolio collection. Click here to find the perfect inspiration to enhance your living space.
