An Interior Designer’s Guide to Maison et Objet Paris

Standing in front of the massive eight-hall Paris Nord Villepinte exhibition center, about to enter Maison et Objet Paris, can be a very overwhelming experience. The excitement, the crowd, and all of the booths filled with the most incredible home decor and accessories requires a plan of action if you want to see it all in the short five days of this major home decor exhibit.

Maison et Objet Paris is the design industry’s most fabulous show. It gathers 3,000-plus companies from France and around the globe. These brands are emerging new talents and well-established mainstays.

The exhibit halls focus on furnishing, accessories, florals, collectables, artwork, and household items. Our Miami-based interior design team was seeking out unique items that we can deliver to our clients before they hit the mainstream. It’s fresh-off-the-press designing. Maison et Objet Paris is all about design and lifestyle offering luxury products from fragrances to tableware and children’s toys and handcrafted gifts.

Maison et Objet Paris Guide

When you arrive at the exhibit hall on day one, come up with a plan of attack.

Designer's Guide to Maison et Objet Paris 2018

We recommend starting in the Maison side of the exhibit first to see the items in the Today exhibit hall, which features emerging new designers. We always keep an eye out for new products from these designers that are aligned to the DKOR style.

Some of our favorites in this hall included our all-time favorite for glass Guaxs and Sklo; the streamlined custom furnishings offered at XVL Home Collection, and the super-sized ceramics at Domani. We also love the accessories available at Tina Frey Designs.

We stopped by the Pulpo booth, who created the breathtaking ODA lamps used in the stairs of our Contemporary Twilight project.

Maison et Objet – Accessories Section

Next, you need a strategy to conquer all the booths in the home accessories section. We recommend good yet chic walking shoes and plenty of caffeine.

It’s so easy to spend an entire day in these halls. They’re bursting with hundreds of booths and loads of great home decor items. We took with us so much inspiration from vendors like XLBOOM and really enjoyed meeting the endearing Jorn with Dagny.

Blomus had simple textiles and accessories. What’s even better? The booth was exceptionally arranged in the hottest colors.

Maison et Objet Paris 2018 - Home Decor Favorites

If you have an opportunity to visit the home fragrance section, we recommend you do it! It’s easy to overlook candles as just an accessory on a shelf or in a bathroom, but the candlemakers at Maison et Objet really brought it. Some of the candles we saw could be big-design-impact items on their own. My personal favorite was the oversized candles from Onno.

Today, Home Accessories, and Home Fragrances are the main exhibit halls that we spend our time in whenever we visit Maison et Objet Paris. Of course, the Kids & Family, Home Linens, and Smart Gift halls offered a lot of great suppliers, too, and we’ll share more from these exhibitors that we passed through.

Where to Stay

Paris is bursting with events throughout the city when Maison et Objet is in town, which overlaps Paris Design Week. You’ll want to make the most of your time rubbing elbows with the international design community and be immersed in the events, cocktails, art, and exhibitions. We recommend staying in the 3rd arrondissement, which is the heart of the design district. As long as your hotel is near a Metro stop, it’s an easy door-to-door 30-minute Metro ride to the Parc des Expositions where the Maison et Objet Paris is hosted.
