A Woven-Inspired Custom Home Design

Woven textiles have been a part of the fabric of our society since ancient Egypt, since 3,000 B.C. Intricately weaving thread together not only makes any basket, blanket, piece of art, or other item stronger, but also more beautiful. We sought inspiration from beautiful woven textures to create the design concept for a recent custom home design project in Hallandale Beach, Florida. We’re calling it “woven architecture.”

Our Hallandale Beach’s interior designers created layers of depth in this 8,000-square-foot custom home design scheme by interlacing light and dark hues and materials with rich textures. Our clients, a pair of empty nesters with two grown sons, want this luxury property to be their forever home—a place their children will gather with them for years to come. We’ve even designed two identical guest rooms for each of their sons with sizeable closets and beautiful views of the canal to make everyone feel at home.

With any client, whether we’re working on a new construction custom home design or a decorating project, our goal is always to understand the phase of life they are in and tailor our design, and their home, to that phase. Clients with young children need a home that functions quite differently than a pair of empty nesters. One isn’t better than the other—simply different. This is something we always take into account with every residential design project.

Our design concepts always come to life after meeting our clients and talking through their passions, dreams, and expectations for their dream home. Since these clients wanted a timeless, beautiful, and comfortable forever home, we achieved a harmonious mood by using classic colors and materials, weaving that through both the architecture and design.

First we started by creating depth by layering decor, furniture, and architectural elements. This layering creates a key focal point that draws the eye in. We paired with a general contractor, Green and Gold (pictured below), and architecture firm, BE Design Associates, Inc., to bring this custom home design to life.

Custom Home Design – Material Selection

Then, we turned to the material selections. A favorite phase in the design planning for our team! Filled with plenty of texture given by Mother Nature, we chose dark wood veneers to pair with striped, striated, veined, and marbled natural stones. Lending some interest and intrigue we paired live-edge wood layered onto transparent backdrops; this layering immediately creates a focal point in the beautiful rustic wood.

Custom Home Design – Color Palette

The home’s color palette is reminiscent of an autumn day: creamy taupe like a warming latte paired with the burnt orange of falling leaves set against cool gray skies. Warm tones give even more life and add a cozy element to our design, especially when paired with snuggle-worthy woven textures and earthy wood veneers. Black is an important hue in our palette as well. We will use this deep, eye-catching color to contrast the lighter hues, highlighting our layering and creating focal points.

Our Progress

Design team during site visit

As with any design process that requires construction, whether it’s a new build custom home or a remodel, we pay many visits to the site to check on progress and meet with our partners. In these photos, you can get a sense of what the home will eventually look like.

Since the home was designed with the clients’ unique needs in mind, it incorporates special spaces that allow them to live their lives to the fullest. There is a craft room for the family matriarch, an entertainment game room, a gym, and a spa room.

In addition to all of these amazing spaces, is a grand room with a 24-foot-high ceiling that’s mean to be the heart of the home. The clients want this to be the main space used for family gatherings, but also daily use. Because of the dual functionality of this room, we will be blending comfort and luxury to create the perfect balance. We can’t wait to see how this lofty, imposing space looks in real life.

This Hallandale Beach home is just one example of our passion to use design to work for the lives, passions, and needs of our clients. We truly do what we do for our clients, who will inhabit these spaces that we create and bring them to life with love and warmth. Check out our design portfolio to see how we design for different lifestyles and life stages—from first home to forever home.
