Feminine Interior Design Inspiration for a Dream Vacation Home
Being an interior design firm in the Miami area, we’re familiar with designing vacation homes for our clients. We love dreaming up these spaces that feel like a home away from home, but perhaps more luxurious, adventurous, or different than their day-to-day homes. In today’s post, we’re excited to share the feminine-chic look one recent client wanted for her dream vacation home in the SLS Lux Brickell.
But first, a bit about the location. Right in the heart of Brickell, the SLS Lux residences rise above the hotel in a 57-story tower designed by the renowned architecture firm Arquitectonica. From the floor-to-ceiling windows, panoramic views of Biscayne Bay or the Miami skyline can be seen from each of the 450 premium residences.
As if the tower’s residential amenities—private elevators, rooftop pool terraces, and walking distance to high-end restaurants and shops—weren’t enough, our client wanted to amp up her condo’s style. And we’re all too excited to help!
When our client told us she was looking for a feminine landing pad to visit on her travels, we were immediately inspired by the orchid. While a flower might seem an obvious choice from which to draw femininity, there’s so much more to it.
The orchid is complex, strong, beautiful, exotic, and varied. It’s a symbol of elegance and has a signature long-stemmed look. Most orchids bloom only a few times a year, just as our client will visit this space just a few times per year.
Dream Vacation Home – Design Elements
The color palette barely scratches the surface of the inspiration the orchid offers. Our design team dove deep into how the orchid could inspire our design elements. And, boy, did it!
We knew our spaces needed to be layered, mirroring how orchids feature many layers of petals. The signature repeating branch structure would also need to weave its way into our designs to create texture. Color won’t just be solid, but feature an ombre fade, as the petals of an orchid do. Our designs will include clusters of items, which together will become one design element. And finally, feminine curves will bring organic shapes into the space.
Materiality
To bring those design elements to life, we need dynamic materials.
Velvet offers a smooth, deep femininity, while silk lends a soft, delicateness to the design. Glass and shimmery materials provide a sparkle—reminiscent of the smile that orchids put on everyone’s faces. And linear textures on textiles and architectural elements to mimic the flower’s branches.
We’ll be designing the elevator foyer, living room, dining room, and master bedroom in this feminine condo. While we’re working on finishing up the space, we’ll share the design of the living room and master bedroom now!
Living Room
In the living room, the eye is immediately drawn to the linear elements on the sofa, mirrored screen, and sheer curtains. To balance out those lines and to maintain femininity in the space, we’ve opted for a circular coffee table, dramatically arched light, and a curvy accent chair.
If you look close enough at the West Elm chair, you’ll notice that it has three of our design elements: velvet, curves, and repeating linear patterns. The warm yellow color pairs perfectly with the hint of gold on the coffee table.
Master Bedroom
In the master bedroom, we’re all about calming, serene neutrals. A leather headboard with a hint of brass picks up the brass lighting elements, bringing the golden hues into the space. Repeating linear patterns and textures combined with the symmetry of the bedroom—one nightstand on each side and lighting elements to match—create a relaxing atmosphere.
Now, if you’re a frequent reader of our blog, you’ll notice these images aren’t 3D renderings, but rather collages. For clients who are avid design enthusiasts and who can picture exactly what we’re suggesting, we often simply do collages to understand how all of the design elements will look together.
