What To Expect From Your First Interior Design Meeting

Congratulations! You’re ready to embark on your home project with our interior design team. What is the next step? Your first interior design meeting with us!

As you know, at DKOR, our goal is to create homes for our clients that reflect who they are and where they can happily and comfortably live, with interior spaces tailored to their style, needs and budget.

Have you ever wondered how our interior designers are able to capture our clients’ style and taste in order to create a unique home design that fulfills their vision and dreams? We do it by listening to and learning about our clients in what we call our “style meeting” with our interior design team.

Our interior design team sits down with our clients and truly gets to know them at our first style meeting. We learn about their expectations, needs and desires and discover their vision for their project. This gives us a clear idea of the design solutions we will need to create for them.

What do we typically review at our first interior design meeting? Here are some of the main topics we cover during this initial time together. Our role is to be listeners and collectors of as much information as possible to help us understand your needs in order to come up with a home design that meets them.

STYLE

Our clients usually know their likes and dislikes, but they often don’t know how to translate them into their home design. That is where our top Miami interior designers come in.

To understand your style, we review the inspirational images using the tear sheets and Pinterest boards that you might have brought with you. We question you about what makes some of these spaces appealing, and explore your reasons for not liking others. We also review samples of different materials to start understanding your preferences.

Our top interior designers also ask questions to gain insight into your preferences and vision, such as, What does your dream home look like? What design styles are you frequently drawn to? What colors do you like or dislike?

NEEDS

A home is about more than just how it looks. Our main goal is to create a functional home design that makes life effortless for you and your family on a daily basis in order to deliver design solutions that look beautiful, feel good and work well for every member of your family.

During our first interior design meeting, we will review your home’s floor plan to get a detailed understanding of the individual needs of each space. We will ask you how you use each area of your home and what your daily routine is. We will want to know how many family members will live in this home and what their ages are? We’ll inquire about what is currently working for you in your existing home and what is not.

TIMELINES

At the first meeting with our talented interior design team, we will discuss realistic expectations for your timeline and answer an important question:  When will your project be completed? Our answer will provide you with a realistic preliminary timeline prepared by your project manager based on its scope.

BUDGET

As we like to say, everybody has a budget even when they don’t think they have one! For that reason, we like to have “difficult” conversations at the start of the process. At the style meeting, our administrative and design team will review with you the “numbers” side of the project to help you have a better understanding of its overall cost. Having our clients agree with our estimates will pave the way for a successful project.

Our project budget template itemizes all the components of the  project, from construction to accessories. This budget will guide the design team as they design the different spaces of your home and select furniture and accessories.

Our style meetings always have their own flow. Although what we laid out here some of the topics we bring up during our first client meeting, each meeting is different. But the main goal remains the same: to get to know you and clearly understand what your expectations are, so that we can deliver to you and your family the most incredible home design you could ever imagine.
