Modern Master Bedroom: A Serenely Designed Suite

With a location like Miami’s Chȃteau Beach Residences, one of our favorite condo buildings in the area, our design team had to pull out all the stops for this interior design project. A couple of months ago, we shared our design concept, “Illusions on the Horizon,” along with our design intent for the condo’s main living spaces.

Today, we’re so excited to share the DKOR interior design team’s plan for the modern master bedroom. Our clients will be moving into this condo after spending nearly a lifetime in their last home, so we want to make their transition smooth, easy, and something they won’t ever regret. We did this by designing a modern master bedroom that is calming and spa-like. Step inside and feel the relaxation wash over you!

Perpendicular to the bedroom door is a moment meant to highlight a piece of our clients’ art: a lit wall inset draws your attention and a floating shelf will eventually be home to a stunning piece of artwork. The inset gives the space depth and interest.

Once inside the bedroom, an entryway lends a bit of privacy to the master suite. The space is tucked into the corner of the condo, so it offers gorgeous ocean views from nearly every angle—and that includes your first step inside the space. Of course, our design team took the opportunity to design every element of this space.

Wood veneer doors open up to either the master closet or the master bathroom, while a textured silk wallcovering is woven with just a hint of metallic to reflect the light. At the end of the hallway is a desk space for the family matriarch. A chair and console combination offers the perfect spot to do her makeup or to do a little work in the natural light. Sheer curtains can be pulled for privacy and gray silk drapes lend even more shimmer.

Turn the corner and you’ll enter the stunning master bedroom with floor-to-ceiling windows. Our design team stuck with a mostly blue palette, accented with bright whites, warm taupes, and deep wood hues.

This bedroom is so beautiful, it’s hard to know where to begin. But, let’s start with the bed. It’s the focal point of the room, after all.

Our design team installed a three-quarter high wallcovering behind the upholstered Kross Bed by CasaDesús. We love this bed for the clean, modern lines and the subtle tufting. It offers just the right amount of interest. On either side of the bed are custom built-in nightstands that feature a drop-down drawer to store electronics, an outlet for easy charging, and a ribbon of mirrored glass to break up the white veneer. A pair of Arteriors lamps in a faux dip-dyed finish sit atop the nightstands.

Adding a pop of color underneath the bed is a brilliant and beautiful hand-knotted rug. The pattern reflects the crashing of ocean waves—mimicking the water outside. Sitting at the end of the bed, providing the perfect place to kick off your shoes at the end of a long day, is an ottoman.

Perched nearby is a chaise lounge, which is just begging to be curled up on with a good book and a cozy blanket. Complementing the square lines of the chaise is a round side table from Arketipo, where the home’s residents can set their coffee or tea.

Underpinning the whole room is a medium-toned wood on the floors and doors. The darker color grounds the light and breezy look.

Master Bathroom Design

Not to be out done, the master bathroom in this master suite is oh-so-dreamy.

The major inspiration was the view, which brought to mind the endless feeling of the horizon. We made the view the focal point of the bathroom by keeping the design elements and materiality neutral and calm. That way, we can get lost in the shades of ocean blue just outside the window.” – Anahi Carrillo

With this inspiration in mind, our designers focused on pulling the eye outside. Oversized mirrors reflect the windows on the other side of the room, while spherical pendant lights appear like clouds in the sky. One of our favorite elements of the space is the extra-large marble tiles on the floor, which put a cooler spin on the all-marble bathroom.

On the shower and bathtub wall, striated marble mirrors the horizontal line where the ocean meets the sky. The taupe and gray tones also lend some warmth to the space—a must in bathrooms dominated by cool, shiny surfaces.
