Destination Mexico: Our Newest International Design Project

Site visit to our new residential project in Mexico

Guess what DKORistas? We’re going back to Mexico! Not for a vacation, but to work on another international design project. At DKOR, we love working in Mexico—and not just because of my Mexican heritage.

This will be our second residential project in Mexico, as we’re currently working on a project in Polanco, one of Mexico City’s most exclusive and chic neighborhoods. (We’ve got a lot going on over in Polanco, so be sure to check out our site visit recaps!)

But back to our new project. We’re heading north to Nuevo Leon, or Monterrey to be more exact. If you haven’t heard of this magical city before, it’s nestled into the foothills of the Sierra Madre Oriental mountains. Monterrey is home to 4 million people, making it the third most populous city in Mexico (after Mexico City and Guadalajara).

A few years back, I completed my interior design degree in Monterrey. Now, it’s very special to come back as a member of a top Miami-based interior design firm. It’s been a few years since I lived in Monterrey, and though some things have changed, I was excited to see that the inspiring and breathtaking views remained the same!

For this project, we’re lending our interior design expertise to a residence in San Pedro Garza Garcia. The architecture firm Pozas Arquitectos is designing the home and Harari Landscape Architecture will be tending to the outdoors of the home. We couldn’t be more excited to work with these two incredibly talented teams to give our clients the home of their dreams.

Newest International Design Project – First Site Visit Recap

Our first site visit was in April, and boy did we pack a lot into our two-day trip! We wanted to meet our clients and our extended team and tour the property, which was just a plot of land at the time. We also took a tour of Monterrey to get a sense of the city’s architecture and ambiance. The design team loved seeing all of the beautiful modern homes and lush gardens throughout the city. And of course a girl’s gotta eat, so we took a few breaks to sample some of the delicious Monterrey cuisine.

After a successful meeting with our clients, in which we kicked off our interior design process by getting to know their design needs and lifestyle, we met with the team over at Pozas Arquitectos.

It was great to meet face-to-face to set goals and determine the best way of working together. When working across countries, it’s important to have open lines of communication so everyone does their best work!

Finally, it was time to see exactly where our project will be located! Once we arrived on site, the amazing mountain views and beautiful neighborhood became our inspiration for the home’s design concept and layout proposal. We’ll be sharing those details in the weeks to come. Stay tuned for more updates from our Monterrey International Design Project!
