Kids’ Room Design Ideas with Fun Wallpapers
Our Miami design team loves nothing more than designing bedrooms for kids. It is always so much fun! It gives us the opportunity to create room design ideas for kids that reflect their personality and provide them with a creative environment where they can play, rest and feel safe.
A child’s bedroom design should be upbeat and cheerful, full of vibrant colors and fun patterns to inspire the imagination and help creativity flow. Here are some Kids’ Room Essentials so you can get an idea of how we like to balance fun with functionality.
Using Wallpaper to Create the Vibe
Given the opportunity to create a space with fun and whimsical accents, we always turn to wallpaper to let our imagination run wild in a child’s bedroom. There is a wide variety available, with all kinds of creative designs and colors that pop. It’s a great way to set the tone for the rest of the room’s design.
Let’s start with the basics of using wallpaper in any residential setting. You can discover some of our favorite tips by reading this article: Decorating with Wallpaper.
Next, to get inspired, take a look at our collection of children’s bedroom designs using wallpaper to create a unique and special room.
In this girl’s bedroom in a 1990s Mediterranean-style house, we used natural materials, warm colors and soft textures. We painted one wall in a solid light rose tone, balanced by a pink wallpaper with a vertical pattern behind the bed.
This boys’ shared space is a modern wonderland bursting at the seams with creativity. To enhance its “metropolis meets athletics” look filled with sports memorabilia, we chose a fun wallpaper featuring city rooftops, with faux grass under the bunk beds.
This shared boys’ bedroom uses the sailing-inspired design scheme found throughout the home mixed with a sports theme. Instead of headboards, we created a focal point behind the beds with wallpaper that resembles the cracking paint on the hull of a well-used ship.
In this boy’s bedroom where warm blue and taupe gray prevail, we added an neon artwork depicting a basketball as a subtle nod to a sports theme. We accented one corner with a wallcovering in blue, white, gray and light green.
This shared girls’ bedroom uses the sailing-inspired design scheme found throughout the home. The wall behind the beds is the room’s focal point. It features a quartet of circular wall art that intersects the wallpaper, chosen because it picks up on the pale pink and gray palette of the room.
Flowered Wallpaper Sets the Tone
In this tranquil shared room, we chose Philip Jeffries’ Bloom – Turquoise Light silver metallic paperweave. Its oversized flowers a whimsical touch to the decor.
Chevron Pattern Makes a Statement
In this bedroom with unusually high ceilings, we used Wallquest’s Natural Chevron wallpaper on the headboard wall. Made from paper and textile strings, it features a geometric pattern to make a bold statement.
In the older boy’s bedroom, we created an industrial, street-art vibe. The design includes details like steamer trunk-style furniture and a neon light over the bed. Check out the psychedelic marbled wallpaper on the ceiling and the whitewashed faux brick wallpaper that creates an urban loft look.
