What Is It Like to Be an Interior Designer at one of Miami’s Top Interior Design Firms?
It’s funny how only three years ago, that same question made me book a flight to Miami. I wanted to figure out for myself what it would be like to be an interior designer for one of Miami’s top interior design firms, DKOR Interiors. I still remember my first day at DKOR. It was Halloween and I was wearing my 1920’s outfit. As you might have noticed, we love to celebrate holidays at DKOR. It’s amazing how time flies when you are having fun and doing what you love.
To describe this experience I should start from the beginning and look back on what being a part of DKOR means to me. I shared this on my first blog post. Becoming an interior designer for a Top Miami Design Firm did not happen overnight. The incredible journey towards where I am at now is an endless learning process that I’m pretty grateful to be living out.
Immediately after college, I left Mexico eager to learn everything about the real interior design world in Miami. That first year was amazing! I did a lot of production work such as drawings, plans, and specifications. All of that production work in the first year helped me to understand the importance that all of the details have during the design process. DETAILS are what really make the difference. The more attention to detail, the better the design.
Over the next few years, I started visiting the job sites! Site visits are one my favorite parts of the process. Seeing our designs come to life is inspiring and helps me to grow more on each project. I also started meeting with carpenters, installers and all the extended team members. During these meetings is when I realized how important it is to communicate your design intent effectively through illustrations and plans. I shared more about my experience on site visits on my second blog “Behind the DKOR: Revealed by Anahi”.
Being an interior designer at one of Miami’s Top Interior Design Firms has also given me the ability to push our creative ideas without so many budget or time constraints. Creativity gives our clients effective design solutions to typical job site challenges faced when renovating or building a new home. These hurdles are where we learn our most meaningful lessons. Finding the solutions and collaborating with our extended team is essential to keeping onsite momentum.
Ultimately, the past three years would not be the same without teamwork. There’s an old proverb that I know of “If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” I can’t be happier to work in a design studio where it’s all about teamwork. I would not be the designer I am today without them. At DKOR Interiors we’re constantly learning from each other.
The best part of being an interior designer is the opportunity you have to change people’s lives. By understanding our clients design needs we can effectively transform a house into a home. We create for our clients nothing less than the home of their dreams.
Can you imagine that?
You’re a part of bringing to life the home of their dreams. It’s just an amazing feeling when they leave our studio with a smile after each presentation and even more rewarding when they see their dream home become a reality.
