Florida Keys Interior Design Reveal: Common Areas in a Contemporary Family Home

Our Florida Keys interior designers recently completed a full renovation of a Florida Keys home. The interior designs were inspired by the natural beauty of the sea. Our team completed this renovation in collaboration with Pinewood Construction. Today, we’re thrilled to share with you the results of the finished common areas.

Designed to promote communal living and a sense of flow, the light-filled common areas are bathed in a soothing marine color palette accented by warm wood and stone details. The organic elements at play merge to create a welcoming environment for the whole family. Just like a treehouse overlooking the open water!

FLORIDA KEYS INTERIOR DESIGN – COMMON AREAS

FOYER

This entryway is like a warm hug for our clients as they return to their home after a long day. We stuck closely to our original design, including using neutral and organic elements as well as accents that emphasize light.

Both the doorway and the screen with the open grid pattern are designed to promote flow between the spaces while the light wood and textile rug emanate warmth. The curved console table is practical and stylish with handy baskets tucked below to hold umbrellas, shoes or other items the family might want to stash out of sight.

During the day, as light streams in from the large window, it will bounce off the mirror and shine through into the living room. At night, our clients can either use the recessed ceiling lights for maximum visibility. They can also turn on the trio of gold pendant lights, which provide an atmospheric glow.

LIVING ROOM

Our clients love entertaining their friends and family members, so we designed a common area that can accommodate both large or small groups.

While there is a lot of space, we’ve divided it into two separate areas. The goal was to create spaces that promote conversations and a feeling of intimacy. This double living room layout includes one area that is centered around a large television. The second area is located by the wet bar. Large area rugs add softness while also helping to define the different spaces.

The inspiration for the furnishings has been plucked straight from the surrounding environment, with lots of natural, organic elements, such as textured and woven fabrics and materials.

GALLERY WALL

The incredible ceiling beams add a rustic touch that further invokes a sense of ease in the space. Nothing is too formal here! With the perfect blend of comfort and style, this living room is sure to be the heart of this Florida Keys home.

Beneath the stairs, you’ll find this additional seating area with several comfortable rattan chairs and a circular wooden table framed by a beautiful beachy photo wall.

This cozy nook would be the perfect place to chat with one other person in an intimate setting, rather than in the larger living room. To create this room, our Florida Keys interior design team started with natural wood and stone for the walls and flooring.

In addition, we included furnishings and accents like books and sculpture that bring personality and sophistication to the space. With the bright images of the beach, the photo wall will undoubtedly be a conversation starter.

RELAXED SPACE NEXT TO THE BAR

Part of the larger living room, this relaxed space next to the bar is a dreamy spot to grab a favorite drink and chat with those around you. We’ve brought the best of modern upscale style with furnishings like the large sofa and abstract-print rug.

On the other hand, we’ve also sought to keep the natural feel that permeates the home with wood floors, a wood coffee table and pampas grass and palm accents. Of course, you can’t miss the breathtaking views of the sea from the three-paned sliding glass doors!

Let’s take a closer look at the wet bar. With its light, neutral colors and contemporary design, this space will surely be a favorite among our clients.

Seating for up to three people at the bar is provided in the form of modern stools at the stone countertop island. You can still see the large flat-screen TV from this space, which means the family can catch the highlights of the game while entertaining.

Exposed glassware adds to the airy and luxe feel of the space. The stunning bow windows over the sink provide additional natural light and a symmetry that complements the ceiling beams.

KITCHEN AND DINING ROOM

In comparison to the other common spaces in this Florida Keys home, this kitchen is a punch of color. We’ve used different shades of blue to create a monochromatic scheme for the cabinets, backsplash, and island.

The result is a room that is tranquil and jewel-like, recalling ocean waves sparkling in the sun. To soften the bold colors, we’ve integrated pops of white, creams, and metallics.

There are two seating areas in this dining room to ensure there’s room for everyone, though you can only see one of them here. The long dining table extends from the kitchen island with 8 modern chairs. The focal point is the chandelier which hangs over the table with exposed bulbs reminiscent of bubbles.

Capturing the soothing energy of a coastal lifestyle, this Florida Keys interior design project was a dream to design and bring to life.
