A Look At Our Latest Dominican Republic Interior Design Project
A true escape from the ordinary, our most recent project in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic is a new build for a family seeking a serene vacation property. The 25,780 square foot home will be constructed in partnership with Antonio Imbert of Simples Arquitectura and Eduardo Valdez of Logroval Construction.
It is a dream team to create this beautiful and functional home for family members of all ages. With three boys ranging from 13 to 25 years old, the family wanted to make sure that their weekend home was a place where they could gather and celebrate, while also providing enough space for their family and friends.
Our team of creative Dominican Republic interior designers have envisioned a concept inspired by the roof of the home, which looks like origami. The unique roof gives the home a distinctly modern look that is unlike any of the surrounding residences. Inside, the spacious layout will provide plenty of room for everyone, allowing for both socializing and privacy.
This home, like origami, is truly one-of-a-kind. Come join us as we dive into the concept behind this Dominican Republic interior design project!
DESIGN CONCEPT
THE ESSENCE OF ORIGAMI
We interpreted the essence of origami, which is the Japanese art of transforming flat surfaces into sculptures and came up with a holistic home design for our clients that centers around balance, proportion, structure, and refinement.
The layers of paper, geometric folds, and intricacy of origami all served as inspiration for the details in this home.
Based on an open floor plan, the home will feature many large windows to take in the stunning views of Punta Cana and provide a sense of flow between the interiors and outdoors.
Our goal is to create harmony throughout the entire property, which can best be achieved by bringing the organic elements found outside into the space. The combination of natural materials and clean, modern lines will create a welcoming environment for the family.
DESIGN PRINCIPLES
Our design team is focusing on using textures, repetition, proportion and contrast. We are using these design elements to create a visual effect that will draw the eye into each space.
Symmetry and structure are key to origami, so you’ll find repeating patterns throughout, from tiles on the walls to furniture placement. Many windows and built-ins will be floor-to-ceiling, creating a sense of expansiveness that echoes the landscape outside.
By playing with proportions and textures, we will embrace a clean, airy feel that doesn’t feel cold.
MATERIALS AND FINISHES
We chose a range of natural materials for this Dominican Republic interior design project that complement the surrounding environment. The foundation of the color palette is inspired by the Earth: wood, stone, and clay.
Natural wood is incorporated throughout the design in cabinetry, flooring, furniture, and built-ins. To add contrast and drama to the space, we plan to use large slabs of marble and other stone. We will see these stone applications on countertops, furniture, and sinks. To warm up the neutral color palette, we’ll use deep blue-green hues as an accent color.
Overall, this Dominican Republic home will have a modern, tranquil feeling that the family and their guests can all appreciate. Stay tuned as we reveal more about this exciting new Dominican Republic interior design project!
