Designer Picks: Cool Kids Decor

As an interior designer and mom of two, a little girly-girl toddler and a baby boy, I’ve always got my eye out for fun, budget-friendly accessories to add to their shared bedroom.

I learned with my first kid that expensive or one-use items aren’t worth it! They just grow so fast, and soon enough you’ll be moving the crib and changing table out of the room. I encourage all mommies to design kids’ bedrooms with versatile furniture and inexpensive cool kids decor you won’t mind replacing. Because there’s no doubt you’ll be redecorating every so often.

Here are some of my favorite finds that can be used for years for both boys and girls:

I have a secret obsession with elephants, but I didn’t realize it until I started designing my kids’ bedroom. This elephant parade pattern is simple but playful, and it’s peel-and-stick so it’s as easy to put up as it is to take down.

Kids love balloons! (Okay, I’ll admit it, we all do). I love the color combination of this cutie! Pink, blue, and white with a gold base, this lamp is perfect for a shared room where you are looking to combine classic boy and girl color palettes.

There can never be enough storage in a kids’ room, and this woven basket is timeless. The beautiful color and material combo make this basket a decorative element, too!

Okay, so a crib sheet set can’t really grow with a child, but I love the sweet graphic bunny design of this set. Its neutral color and design make it perfectly gender neutral.

This is my next kids’ décor purchase! My little baby is starting to crawl, and he is all over the floor. These foam tiles are shaped like triangles and can be snapped together to form a bunch of different patterns to suit any style.

I just love the Larkin twin bed in gold. If you’re looking for a simple and delicate bed, this is a beautiful option! It also comes in black and white if you’re not into gold.

So adorable! (My little girl is obsessed with unicorns!) Perfect for any kid’s bedroom, pair this unicorn bust with the bunny version or any other beautiful animal from the Pillowfort Creature Cave collection.

Often times, we need a few little details to fill out the decorative shelves in kids’ rooms. The miniature plywood elephant by Vitra is perfect to fill out that space with style.

I love anything with tassels! I think this cheeky little element is perfect to add texture and character to kids’ rooms, especially a shared space.
