2016 Design Trends from Salone del Mobile Milano

The Salone del Mobile in Milan this year was truly amazing. We are still enjoying all the inspiration and beautiful furniture, lighting, and accessories we were able to see at the exhibitor booths. Truly, the Italians have design built into their genes.

Several brands, such as Baxter, Flexform, Meridiani and Minotti had a few recurring elements and current design trends that are being introduced in the construction and design industry this year by the Italian manufacturers. Pink and teal colors, darker metals, and tinted glass, to name a few, are elements that stood out.  See the inspiring use of these elements in some of these exhibitors at the Salone del Mobile Milano 2016.

INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS – NEW COLORS

GREYS

All shades of grey are still in trend! Full palette of grey into one space. Not a lot of colors yes, but playing with different greys, and textures made it cozy and interesting enough! This color was seen on walls, rugs, furniture, wood finishes, flooring upholstery and carpentry. Despite intensity and darkness, this color looks very fresh and relaxing. Warm grey this year became a defining tone, a neutral colour that makes everything timeless. Shades of grey were seen in brands like Giellese, Cattelan, Dada, etc.

BLUES AND TEALS

All shades of blue’s, from dark denim to light sky shades which made the furniture and accessories pop. Dark teals as well as pastel teals are in; at Milan they were in pops of color in a carpentry pieces, or in an accent furniture piece, or even as the one accent wall in a space.

PINK

Soft unsaturated pink, almost like a softer dusty rose hue was also seen in a lot of different booths. When used on the walls of Latorre Booth, the effect was fresh and elegant and not too youthful.

Combination of pink and blue also appeared in many accents, surfaces, furniture, paint, etc. We noticed this color in a lot of the carpentry, furniture and accents.
