Every year the Design Center of the Americas hosts a Design House showcasing the creations of numerous design talents of South Florida. Each firm designs one room of the show house inspired by a particular theme. For 2011 the DCOTA asked designers to draw inspiration from films of the Golden Age of Hollywood.

DKOR Interiors, in charge of designing the Breakfast/Tea Room, chose the classic 1951 musical starring Gene Kelly and Lesley Carron, “An American in Paris”. The film’s Oscar-winning set decoration and costume design filled our minds with rich inspiration that we would later draw upon to create a sense of depth and layering in the design. The era itself evokes a sense of nostalgia and whimsy that we strive to keep alive through the use of playful elements.

Tuesday, January 18th the DCOTA will be hosting a private preview gala for the designers and press.

Wednesday, January 19th the Show House will be unveiled to the general public and will be on display until July 30th, 2011
