As a future young design professional, the residential interior designers at DKOR Interiors are truly an inspiration. The first day of any new internship can be exciting and scary but it was refreshing to be welcomed with smiles and laughter. With the help of the two other design interns, Autumn and Laila, I was able to immerse myself into the DKOR lifestyle where they not only create beautiful interior designs but emphasize the importance of establishing relationships with everyone who steps into their interior design studio.
It was so nice to have these two by my side, sharing tips and tricks that we picked up from our different universities and I feel extremely lucky to have had the chance to work with the best residential interior designers who were so willing to share their knowledge and expertise. Whether it was joining the designers on a job site or chiming in to the Monday morning meetings, every day was filled with a fun new learning experience.
As the design internship progressed I was continually given opportunities to help out with different interior design projects and one of my fondest memories is having the chance to take on an interior design project of my own. With the guidance of Ivonne Ronderos, the owner of DKOR Interiors, and Lead Designer, Margaret Smith-Logan, I was able to help with the design of a small interior space for one of their clients. It was a special moment, to say the least being able to present the work that our intern team had created, present to the client, and receive feedback from the client. This type of real world scenario is sometimes unattainable while working on a project for school. This not only allowed me to grow as an individual but gain the confidence that it takes to enter into the professional interior design world.
In school you learn the skills it takes to be a designer; at DKOR I learned how to apply those skills into becoming a professional interior designer and that is something I will never forget. Thank you DKOR Interiors for the wonderful experience!
