Bal Harbour Modern Interiors: Green Family Room and Breakfast Nook

We’ve shown you a lot of the Bal Harbour Modern Interiors in this modern wonderland-inspired home. From the children’s playroom to the family’s bedrooms, each area is designed with a color in mind. The hue evokes an emotion we want the family to feel when they’re in that space.

In this great room, made up of the kitchen, a breakfast nook, and a family room, we used green. The design team used this tone to bring out generosity, health, and luck. Things any family would want ever-present in their home.

The family’s matriarch wanted this modern space to be an all day, every day kind of room. Where she didn’t have to worry about the kids messing it up. Because of this, we selected kid-friendly materials to complement a family-oriented design. The oval breakfast table is topped with glass so it’s easy to clean, the seats and bench are covered in a low-maintenance vinyl upholstery, and the bench opens to reveal hidden storage. A built-in shelving unit offers space for every knickknack and breakfast room necessity, while also creating unity with the adjoined kitchen.

We recovered the family’s existing Knoll Platner chairs to match the bench and the accent wallcovering. In the morning the family can eat together here, and in the afternoon it can become a workstation for the kids to do their homework or eat an after-school snack. When the little ones want to read a book or watch TV, the adjacent family room is open to them.

A sectional sofa ensures each kid has enough room—potentially avoiding a few fights. The cabinetry surrounding the TV is from Ikea, so the family can add and subtract pieces as they grow and change without a hit to the budget. (Using Ikea’s wide variety of cabinetry is one of our favorite budget-friendly hacks!)

The best part of this modern room is that mom can be in the kitchen cooking dinner, some kids can be at the table, and some in the family room, and she can see everything. They’re under her watchful eye, but she’s not worried they’re spilling or scratching irreplaceable furniture.

We’re getting ready to complete the final install, so we should be able to share finished photos of these Bal Harbour modern interiors soon! Stay tuned.
