A Multifunctional Living Room Gets a Stellar Makeover
As part of our complete redesign of a stunning high-end Hollywood, FL home, the newest addition to our ever-expanding portfolio, our interior design team was asked to convert an underused area into a multifunctional living room area, where the family could relax and entertain in a comfortable yet sophisticated setting.
In this blog, we walk you through the “before and after” images of the original layout and our creative multi function room design, explaining the design intent behind each feature and how it was realized.
A Lot of Beautiful Space Goes Unused
This is how the living room looked when we began our multifunctional living room design. As you can see, the layout of the original living room was not very functional or inspired – just a sofa facing a TV – and the entry area had tons of wasted space.
We immediately set out to redesign the area with a creative furniture arrangement that made the most of the space and provided comfortable seating for multiple people in different configurations.
Our multifunctional living room’s new floor plan combined the seating and entertainment areas. We then added specific zones, including an entry foyer and a small bar area with seating space.
Back-to-Back Seating Areas
This image shows how we made use of the large empty space by adding a sofa facing away from the TV, a perfectly placed magazine rack, and matching rugs with different shapes to define the separate areas.
The beauty of this new design is that both areas can be used at the same time. Even the furniture selected was multifunctional and versatile: the sofa facing the television offers space for lounging, while the one facing the opposite direction can be used as additional seating for the table. The table itself can function as a cocktail, dining or card table or even a spot to set up a laptop.
The floor-to-ceiling window treatments in a neutral color visually merge the area as a whole in our multifunctional living room.
Small Bar Area in Living Room
Instead of building out a specific area for the home bar, we created a small bar area in the living room with all the bar essentials. It includes a selection of glassware for different types of drinks, and essential tools such as bottle opener, corkscrew, ice tongs, mixing glass and shaker, as well as lots of room for the family’s favorites wines, spirits and mixers.
The second sofa faces a really cool black-and-white painting, while the glass doors on the sidebar reflect the colors and shapes of the new area, making it appear larger.
